LMU CREATED A coalition of diverse Muslim and non-Muslim WOMEN TO COME together AND educate THE PUBLIC about the PURPOSE OF Hijab (mUSLIM WOMEN’S HEADSCARF); TO DISPEL MISCONCEPTIONS OF MUSLIM WOMEN OBSERVING HIJAB.
With hate crimes against Muslim women at an all time high, WE ENCOURAGE DIALOGUE AND empower HIJABIS to SHARE THEIR stories and shape their own narrativeS.
Our proJECT AIMS to:
· Educate and define purpose of Hijab (headscarf)- Hijab means “cover” in Arabic, wearing hijab is a choicE AND A spiritual act (submission to God), a symbol of faith, an act of respect, modesty, and empowerment and an act of courage.
· Humanize Hijabis or women who cover. Hijabis tell their personal stories of wearing hijab and invite womxn to wear hijab for a day to empathize and build solidarity.
· Defend civil liberties and support religious freedom. Hijab is a first amendment right and they deserve respect and dignity, without harassment.
· Empower and eliminate stigma. Hijab isn’t oppression or submission to man, it is about a woman's right to choose and embrace her identity.

200 women wore hijab at OC Women’s march in 2017
3,600 women and girls wore hijab in their public places in 2017, 2018 and 2019 in solidarity in so cal and shared stories at schools, local mosques and in social media
